A lifelong Fraserburgh resident, John Anderson is a retired firefighter and former Managing Director and Watchman Manager with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, as well as the retired Scottish Deputy Co-ordinator of the International Rescue Corps. A proud member of the community, he has served on the Community Council since 2015 and remains deeply committed to supporting local initiatives.

In recognition of his outstanding community work during the Covid-19 pandemic, John was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in 2020—an honour that recognises exceptional service to local communities. Initially thinking the message about the award was a scam, he later went on to receive the honour and was also invited to attend the King’s Coronation in May 2023.

John continues to dedicate much of his time to volunteering locally, helping lead efforts to establish a Community Council Resilience Group and Community Food Larder. He is passionate about Fraserburgh, particularly its beautiful beach where he enjoys walking his dog. John believes the town has great tourism potential and hopes to see more industry and opportunities brought to the area.

Born and raised in Fraserburgh, he has lived in the town all his life and remains deeply proud of his hometown. After spending 32 years working in the oil and gas industry, he is now semi-retired and works part-time for a charity in Dyce that is close to his heart. He joined the Community Council to help boost community spirit and give something back to the place he has always called home.

He is particularly passionate about supporting children and adults with disabilities and ensuring they are included in as many opportunities as possible.

He joined the Community Council because he wanted to help improve the town rather than simply complain about it on social media. Passionate about Fraserburgh, he loves the town’s coastline and beach—especially on a sunny day or when it’s snowing—but believes the area would benefit from more activities for children, families, and visitors, as well as investment to refresh and revitalise the town.

He likes to get involved in hands-on projects and DIY.

In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family and dogs.
