Helena also volunteers with Aberdeenshire North Foodbank and Advocacy North East.

Those roles, whilst being different in form are all equally rewarding to Helena and such a good way to meet new people and contribute to the community.

Volunteering is also fun!

A lifelong Fraserburgh resident, John Anderson is a retired firefighter and former Managing Director and Watchman Manager with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, as well as the retired Scottish Deputy Co-ordinator of the International Rescue Corps. A proud member of the community, he has served on the Community Council since 2015 and remains deeply committed to supporting local initiatives.

In recognition of his outstanding community work during the Covid-19 pandemic, John was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in 2020—an honour that recognises exceptional service to local communities. Initially thinking the message about the award was a scam, he later went on to receive the honour and was also invited to attend the King’s Coronation in May 2023.

John continues to dedicate much of his time to volunteering locally, helping lead efforts to establish a Community Council Resilience Group and Community Food Larder. He is passionate about Fraserburgh, particularly its beautiful beach where he enjoys walking his dog. John believes the town has great tourism potential and hopes to see more industry and opportunities brought to the area.

Denise's background is in tax and finance.

She  joined the community council, hoping to be useful and  to raise any concerns, friends, family, or neighbours had.

The local issue Denise cares about the most is the lack of primary health care available. She would like to see a solution where more people can have ready access to health care professionals.

Fraserburgh has a fantastic beach, which has always been her go-to place. It also has great golf courses and a very interesting history, and Denise believes we need to promote all the positive and good aspects of our town.

Caroline is originally from Greater Manchester where she worked as a project Manager for a local charitable organisation. She is now retired and live in St Combs.

Caroline moved here to be nearer to her son and grandchildren who moved to Banff some years ago. She knew she wanted to move to a village where she could find a sense of real community and get involved. Caroline was pleased to find all that she wanted in St Combs and has got involved in the village and now works with others in the hall as a member of the committee.

For Caroline, Fraserburgh is her local town, and she loves it. She enjoys swimming utilising the brilliant access for all including disabled people which she is grateful for. The town has a lot to offer and a lot to be proud off but also needs people to get involved to support the growth in improvements for all.

Caroline looks forward to working with all at Fraserburgh community council to improve and enhance facilities for the ordinary folk who work, live or visit our community.

Passionate about Fraserburgh, he loves the town’s coastline and beach—especially on a sunny day or when it’s snowing—but believes the area would benefit from more activities for children, families, and visitors, as well as investment to refresh and revitalise the town.

He likes to get involved in hands-on projects and DIY.

Alistair wanted to join the Community Council to help in the local area where possible and as the current chair of the Broch Defibrillator Group it was an ideal way to raise awareness of these vital pieces of equipment and to network with others who simply want to help improve things in the town.
